Tidewater Tobacco by Flavor West – DIY Review

Comments Off

I mixed up a batch of the tidewater tobacco by Flavor West, on 5-5-2013.   Today I am sampling it.  The flavor mix is at 2%, as everything stronger would gag almost anyone, on the other tobacco flavors I have tested out.

Right off the bat, first few hits are showing promising signs of a decent tobacco flavor, or possibly one…  with one major exception.  The throat hit is amazingly strong, harsh, or what ever you would call it.  Almost like a dry hit kind of strong.   I am going to take a few minutes, get a drink and come back to it.  I know the wick is completely soaked, so it is not a dry hit, but it seems a lot like it.

Ok, I am back now.   It is real strong.  A slight grassy taste to it, but absolutely none of the perfume crap that I have been tasting in their other tobacco flavors.  It is much better in that respect.  Well, only a very slight hint of that talc powdery feel to it on my inner mouth, and a super slight hint of that perfume to it, but so slight, you hardly notice it until you keep looking for it.

It is starting to look like the issue may be my new wick.  I really soaked it good now, and the harshness seems to be gone.  The vapor production is pretty darn good.  Maybe the highest for any of the tobacco flavors I have tried so far, and it is on the lowest power setting of my ego twist battery.

Now that the harshness is gone, and I got a drink to clear my throat of the burning…  The grassy flavor seems very mild, and I am starting to think this may be one of the best tobacco flavors from Flavor west.  I bought them all, and only have 3 more to test out after this one.  This may just be my new base flavor for things like bluebacco, and others.  At least until I find one better – perhaps a different brand will bring better vaping in the future, but only time will tell.

I am going to vape on this for a few hours and see if it looses it’s luster.  At only 2% flavor mix, I am surprised it isn’t all washed out, but it is actually nice.  I even had my wife take a few hits to get her opinion on it, and she said it was pretty darn good.  She liked it a lot.

Again, this is a 50/50 mix of PG and VG, and I did not put any nicotine in these test batches.   Now that the wicking issue seems to be fixed, the throat hit is very smooth and creamy.  Why did I say creamy?   Because it seems to have a very slight cream flavor going in.  The grassy flavor seems to be all but gone, and I am not noticing any bad after taste coming in to my mouth at all, after about 20 minutes of vaping this.

It does seem to have a mild tobacco flavor to it.  I kinda expected a bit more of that, but over all, this is pretty good tasting.  I will add one percent of flavor to see if it gets any better or if it takes it the other direction, but at 2%, it is pretty decent, and could be an all day vape as it is mild and not at all over powering, and is not leaving any kind of a lingering flavor in my mouth.  I do notice though, that with this flavor, if it even starts to run low on liquid, it produces that super harsh hit, quicker than any of the other flavors I have tried to date.

It is a definite one for you to try out if you are DIY vape juice mixing to find better and cheaper ways to vape.

DIY e liquid review – Banana nut bread by Flavor west

Well, now I am starting to have some fun with my DIY e liquid making.  Since I have been vaping a while now, and have to drive around 75 miles round trip to get my favorite  smoke juice, I decided to give a go at making my own.  It is just too costly to drive that far to pick up some e liquids every couple of weeks. It tacks on an easy $20 for the gas.  So, I ordered the supplies, and started making some flavors of my own.  This is a review of the banana nut bread DIY flavoring from Flavor West.
The first thing I found out, is that there is no carved in stone way to make your eliquids.  There are several flavor vendors, and none of them have a set amount of flavor you ad, to make your juice.  It is mostly trial and error, and a lot of reading on the net to try finding what worked for others.  So, for my first batch, since my wife likes it so much, I made up some banana nut bread e liquid.   The best info I could find on the web said to use about 20% of the flavoring, with the mix, so I added my flavor,  nic, and set the e liquid calculator to a 50/50 mix of pg-vg, with 16mg of nicotine, with 15% of flavoring, just to be safe.
Believe it or not,,, it turned out pretty darn good.   I made a second batch at the 20% flavoring, and it was a bit too strong, so I lucked out the first time.  Nice.   The e liquid needs to sit for several hours, to several weeks, to steep in the flavor,  but we only waited an hour or so for the first try of it.  Then once it sat for a week, it was great.   My wife loves it, and that was important, because I made that batch for her.  Once this flavor sites for 7 or 8 days at room temperature, it becomes more bold, and flavorful.  Keep that in mind if you start making stronger batches.
With the 50/50 blend of pg and vg, it has a real good vapor, plenty of throat hit, and a real smooth flavor that you could vape all day.   If you like banana nut bread, then you should really give this flavor a try.  If you do not want to do it yourself, then there are tons of sites that sell ready to vape e liquids and many of them carry this flavor.
Thanks for stopping by, and Happy Vaping!

JC’s Summer Peach flavor.. nice e liquid

Wow, this is one that I just can’t wait to talk about.

As I opened the bottle of summer peach, from Johnson Creek, I was hit with a pleasing tobacco smell. I thought I would smell the peach, but instead, it just smells like a great tasting mild tobacco blend.  My nose did not pick up any smell of the peach flavor at all.  This lead me to think that it would be a disappointing flavor once I started vaping it.   Boy, was I wrong, and I am glad I was.

I put 4 drops into my atomizer to get it going, and took a few puffs. The peach flavor really stands out, with a bit of an apricot flavor coming through the back end.  That is a great combination.  I am not sure what happened to the tobacco flavor i can definitely smell when smelling the bottle, but this is one great tasting e-liquid for sure.   I don’t know about it making me feel like summer, since it is the end of February and about 32 degrees outside, but it sure lights up my taste buds.

One thing I noticed it is had a mild throat hit, and very little vapor production, but even with little vapor, it has great flavor.  That gives me mixed emotions on this one, because myself, and many others really enjoy a large vapor when we vape.  I think I will try putting a small amount into a vial and mixing with 20% VP and see if the vapor production comes out without watering down the flavor.  It is hard to say I am disappointing with this flavor due to the low amount of vapor, because the actual flavor is so delicious…  But it does leave me wanting for a nice thick vapor cloud.

I will add to this post once I try with 20% VG in just a bit.  Stick around and see how it goes.

My Electronic Cigarette Review

Ok, here goes my review on electronic cigarettes and vaping.  I am sure you could pull up thousands of reviews if you search on line.  That may be how you found my site.  Well, I will let you know what I think about them after doing the on going research that I also do from time to time, and with how well they have worked for me, to move away from smoking, and working towards my zero nicotine goal.

I started out like most people. I  was a smoker of 20+ years.  I have tried countless times to quit smoking for health reasons, and because of the cost.  Now, to put that into prospective – I said I would stop smoking if they ever cost more than $1 a pack…  damn, that was a long, long time ago.

I wondered if the electronic cigarette could offer a realistic smoking experience?  Of course, this is one of the first thoughts that came to my mind when I first heard about e-cigarettes and no doubt you’re also wondering “how close to the real thing can it be?”

I’d like to share my electronic cigarette usage review with you in the hopes of giving you a better understanding of what to expect if you decide to give them a try.

Some smokers enjoy their cigarettes. At least they say they do.  I smoked for an awful long time, and I can’t remember actually enjoying them after they had me hooked. The first few, ok, they were, but after that, I was just feeding the craving. For many smokers, like me, it was a love hate relationship.   If you smoke then you know what I’m talking about. You know how bad it is for you, but you enjoy the sensation, and the actual ritual of smoking. Or at the least, that is what you trained your body to think.  That’s why the nicotine delivery alternatives like gum and the patch just can’t cut it… they don’t simulate the actual smoking experience and I go nuts trying to quit.

This is where the e-cig comes in.  It claims to replicate a real smoking experience, but without the same health risks and other drawbacks of smoking tobacco cigarettes.  And you know what? For me, it is doing a pretty good job at doing it.  It isn’t exactly the same, but the similarities are close enough to satisfy me.  The weight of the e-cig is the first thing you notice that is different. It took a while to get used to, but I did in time.

I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised with how it tasted and felt like smoking a regular tobacco cigarette.  From the first try, i could see how this could be the ticket to both saving a lot of money, and getting off of cigarettes for good.

The sensation of the vapor is incredibly similar to real cigarette smoke. The vapor has a warmth to it, depending on your atomizer, and it feels a lot like real smoke when you inhale. A bit milder though. You also get that immediate nicotine sensation which is satisfying.

The taste was a lot like tobacco but not exactly. It was a bit smoother and cleaner tasting and I found myself actually preferring the flavor. I understand that other flavors are available like menthol, vanilla, fruit, etc., but I didn’t try any of those for quite a while.  Then my taste buds became clearer and I did find that I enjoy a lot of different flavors and now I don’t vape much of the tobacco flavors at all.

When you blow out the vapor you see a cloud that looks exactly like smoke but without the lingering smell.  As a matter of fact the vapor is nearly odorless and the cloud (which is just vapor) quickly disappears without a trace.  Some of the e-liquids do leave a good smell in the air, but most have no smell at all.  The fact that my breath, hands, hair and clothes don’t stink is a big plus!

Another think I like is the price. A pack of cigarettes where I live is about $5. A single nicotine cartridge for most electronic cigarettes is around $1.5 to $2, and is the equivalent of about 30 cigarettes. However, I use refillable tanks, and buy my liquids in larger bottles so the savings is 10 fold.

If you’re an adult, addicted smoker, I highly recommend giving the electronic cigarette a try… you may find yourself changing the way you smoke forever.  Hey, it works for me, and it may work for you also.  You never know until you give them a try.

What is an Electronic Cigarette?

February 20, 2013 by

A few years back, I heard of electric cigarettes, and had no idea what they were, or where to find one.  I heard that you smoke them, but there was no smoke… It had me confused, and curious at the same time. When I first heard about the electronic cigarette, my first reaction was that this is most likely a novelty item that wasn’t to be taken seriously.

Just this last year though, I finally found what it was all about.  There were no stores selling them until recently, so there was just no information out there to be had. From what I have seen though, I am glad I didn’t find them back then.  They were shotty, and at best a poor excuse for what they were supposed to be.   They have had a few years to develop a much better product before I found them, and for that, I am glad.

Since that time, several years ago,,,  I continued smoking regular cigarettes, even though I tried to quit, I don’t know how many times, over the last 15 years.  Then, I developed a heart problem, and had to have a quadruple bypass.  The doc said I had to quit, or I would be back in a couple of years.  I didn’t want no part of doing that all again.  It is the most pain you could ever imagine…

After I healed up for 3 months or so,  I started smoking again.  Bad idea…  I didn’t want to, I just did.  I started looking for alternatives again, and finally found a egig shop in a flea market that we go to. This is where I learned about them, and got started into vaping.

Here is the scoop on them, for those of you that don’t know yet.

The e-cig is a battery powered device that is supposed to look and feel like a real cigarette.  However, the first thing we noticed it that even the small ones are much heavier than a real cigarette.  It takes time getting used to that.  The first ones we tried did look like a real cigarette, but the batteries only lasted a couple of hours, and we always had to have spares on the charger.  We upgraded…

The main type that is used by people once they get past the point of using the disposable types, or the lower cost ones that look like them, is the EGo battery and a clearamizer, or a tank which holds enough liquid to vape for hours, and the battery lasts most of the day.

This comes in two or 3 parts, depending on which type you get.  The basic parts are:

1. Battery
2. Atomizer
3. Cartridge or tank, or clearamizer.  NOTE: This part is your choice, and you find find yourself changing between one type and another to find the one that you really like.  There are a lot of different types from the basic disposables, to the reusable, and then the more advanced rebuildable ones. .

I will  go over what each component does:

1. Atomizer. This heats up and vaporizes a mixture of e-liquid, with or without nicotine. The sensation of inhaling this vapor is very similar to real cigarette smoke but without the same health risks.  It even has a warm feel to it which adds to a realistic experience. The vapor produces a cloud that looks like smoke but is actually just a vapor mist that quickly disappears. Not to mention, that the mist smells good, if it has any smell at all, and not at all like a regular cigarette stink.

2. Battery. A rechargeable battery that powers the atomizer.  You can get different sizes of these batteries, so you can get one that will last you all day, with one battery.   It is shaped to look like the body of a real cigarette, except they are about the size of a small cigar. The lifespan of batteries varies from model to model, but most of them say you will get 300 to 400 recharges with them.   I use an Ego twist, that allows me to twist the bottom and change the voltage wich lets me tweak the way the flavor tastes.  It lasts all day, from about 7 am until about 11 pm. most of the time.

3. Cartridge.   The cartridges are made out of plastic and have a section that holds e-liquid.  They look similar to a real cigarette butt.  The clearomizer is typicly about 2.5 to 3 inches long, and had a glass or plastic cover so you can see how much liquid is in it, and holds a lot more than a cartridge. A tank came out as holding more liquid than a cartridge, but had no polly fill, and was just like a mouthpiece that had the liquid in it.  Now there are other tanks that are bigger than a clearomizer and are called cartomizers.

4. E-Liquid.    The E-liquid, or smoke juice, is what you put in the above items to produce the vapor you want.  You pick the flavor and nicotine level you want. E liquid has very few ingredients… made up of a water, vegetable glycerin, propoline glycol, and flavoring, and nicotine if you choose.    Different nicotine strengths are available in high (24 milligrams), low(less than 8 milligrams), or medium about 12 milligrams).  These numbers vary from the different manufacturers.  Most manufacturers also offer a variety of flavors ranging from traditional tobacco flavor, menthol, vanilla, chocolate and fruit flavors, drink flavors, deserts, like blueberry cheesecake, and tons of other flavors…  many of them are quite tasty.  And no doubt a lot better tasting than a real cigarette ever was.

The electronic cigarette seems surprisingly similar to a regular tobacco cigarette, but without most of the same health risks. There is no lingering offensive odor. No second hand smoke to float around and get all over everything.  Vaping is also a lot less costly than tobacco cigarettes. This combined with the fact that you can use it almost anywhere makes vaping,  a sensible, healthier alternative, one that is definitely worth considering.   Remember though, that if you have nicotine in your system, your blood pressure and flow is still affected.  The best part is, you can decrease that amount over time, like I have been doing.

One of the best things about it that I have found, is that when you vape, you do not smell like a dirty ashtray.  You don’t get that stink, that people can smell 5 feet away.  I know I didn’t realize how much you could smell it, until I started vaping, and realized I could tell when someone at the checkout line in the store had a smoke before they came shopping…  Not to mention, I can vape in my house and don’t have to worry about that brown nicotine stain all over the walls and cloths.

As far as me vaping with nicotine with my heart issues –  I can feel it if I have too much nicotine, and over time, I have been able to realize some great physical health benefits that have come back over the many months I have been away from real cigarettes.  My blood pressure is better.  I feel like I have more energy a lot more than I did before.  I can taste and smell better.  And most of all, I know I will get myself off of nicotine entirely before too much longer.  I couldn’t do that with any other things I used to try to get away from cigarettes.

Note, your mileage will vary.  Everyone is different. It may work for you, and it may not.  It is working for me, but didn’t work for my wife. She gave up after a couple of months. Hopefully, she will find the electronic cigarette that gives her the satisfaction she is looking for, and will give it another try soon.

Buying an Electronic Cigarette

Are you ready to buy an electronic cigarette, or perhaps just looking for info about them?

Good news:  They are definitely a healthier and cleaner, and safer alternative to conventional cigarettes or cigars. Let me help you with making a smart choice that works for you.

Where do you start?  There are so many different kinds to choose from…

Here is my list of some of the more popular types of e-cigarettes and the pros and cons of each:

1. Standard E-Cigarette. This is just a little bigger than a normal cigarette but looks very similar. Blu is an example.

pros: It is the most similar to a tobacco cigarette in size and feel. The battery life is pretty decent, and it produces a nice vapor.
Cons: The cartridge size is a bit smaller than some other types, so you may have to replace or refill it more often.  Most manufacturers tell you to replace the cartomizers with a new pack.  However, they can be refilled for a great price savings. But remember, they are disposable cartos, so they can only be refilled a few times before replacing.

2. The Mini E-Cigarette is a bit longer than the Super, and basically the same diameter. However, the main difference is the mouthpiece which is tapered.

Strength: Decent vapor and battery life.  The battery is larger so it will hold a charge for a longer time.
Weakness: A lot of people are saying it has an odd shape/feel and seems more like a small cigar rather than a conventional cigarette.  Usually they are cheaply made and intended to be tossed when finished with them.

3. The Joey EGO type e-cig is one of the most popular models out there now days.

Pros: Can find at any E-Cig store, or website. Batteries that can last all day. Capable of using many, many different types of atomizers, cartomizers and tanks, to hold more e liquid, so you don’t have to refill so often.  Customizable to get just the vape your looking for.
Cons: They are much larger than a real cigarette, so keeping them in your shirt pocket is not as simple.  They are heavier. Bulky, and long.

4. Disposable ecig. Everything is self contained. No need to change/refill cartridges, charge the battery, etc.

Pros: You can find them at most gas stations now days.  Great way to see if you like vaping without a huge investment. Usually costs less than a pack of traditional tobacco cigarettes.
Cons: Can get expensive and may seem a bit wasteful. Since you get these in 1 or 2 packs, the cost is higher per ecig.

The Joey Ego, E-Cigarette type is my personal favorite right now. I have the battery size to last me all day, a spare battery, just in case, and I use a vivi nova  tank with replaceable atomizers so I can get the vapor and flavor that I enjoy the most.  I have however been thinking about getting a larger variable voltage model to produce more vapor as I keep lowering my nicotine percentage in my smoke juices.

Now, don’t rush out and buy an electronic cigarette yet!

Not all e-cigarettes are created equal… as a matter of fact many of the early designs are prone to mechanical failure. The most common complaint is that the atomizers get clogged, or the wicks get burned. When this happens the vapor quality and volume is greatly reduced. Another problem is short battery life.  Now days, there are batteries out that will last most people 2 or 3 days between charging.  However, these go in what is called a mod, and they usually are very costly, so not the way most people start vaping.

The best way to avoid these problems is to educate yourself on the best models and brands. Unfortunately the majority of manufacturers are producing cheaply made inferior products. The good news is that there are a handful of reputable companies with top of the line electronic cigarettes that will give you a realistic smoking experience without all the headaches.   If you are looking for 100% USA made products, you can find them too.  In fact, I will make sure to put up a page in the near future, with info to US manufacturers of smoke juice/e-liquid, and products, so you can find them.

If you would like more information on where you can buy one of the best electronic cigarettes available on the market, stop by a local electronic cigarette, or vapors store in person. Most are more than happy to spend all the time you need, to help you make the right choice for you, your budget, and your goals.  Or, if you know what you want, you can go to my shop pages, to see many different kinds sold on Amazon.com.   Yes, I get a small commission, but that will help me keep this site on line and keep putting out more information.

Oh, and you would have my eternal gratitude for helping me help others.

I have been asked about the true safety of these electronic cigarettes.  Click on the links above in the scientific category, and I am posting actual test findings there. You can see the data for yourself.  I am no doctor – I leave the tests to the people that are educated in doing such things, but I can look at their findings and see clearly, that although this may not be 100% safe, it is a lot safer alternative than smoking regular cigarettes.

Can Electronic Cigarettes Help You Quit Smoking?

February 15, 2012 by

Well, that is the million dollar question right now, isn’t it.

First, you have to want to get away from traditional cigarettes, or there is nothing out there short of death that will get you away from them.  The cigarettes will help you along your way towards death for sure.  That is a proven fact.

But, the real question is, can electronic cigarettes really help you quit smoking ?

Possibly…  it is really all up to you and your choice to vape instead of smoke.

They helped me, and they have helped others, but I know people that didn’t care for them, and went back to tobacco cigarettes.  The companies who sell these devices are not legally in a position to tell you that they can help you quit smoking.  The FDA has not approved electronic cigarettes as a reduced harm, or smoking cessation product, so they are not currently being sold as smoking cessation devices, but rather as a “smoking alternative“, that many people think is healthier, for people who want smoke in public places.  So far, the research is showing this to be true. They have more than 4000 less toxic chemical components than a traditional cigarette. To me, that sounds like a better choice – point blank, hands down, or however you want to say it.

E-cigs are an alternative nicotine delivery system. Common sense would tell you,  that they can be used as part of an overall smoking cessation program, much like the way nicotine gum, patches and inhalers are.  However, these don’t make me itch like the patch does, or pull out my filling like that gum did.  I get to choose from a huge variety of great tasting flavors, and now traditional cigarettes taste terrible to me. I personally enjoy my e cig much more than a regular, tobacco cigarette.

And here is an interesting fact about electronic cigarette nicotine cartridges: They come in several different nicotine levels – high, medium, low, and zero nicotine.  Some stores or sites, let you pick your nic level, even if they are different than the average that they normally offer.  These are places that make their own e-liquids that are able to make your custom order of nic and flavors.   Conceivably, a person could slowly wean themselves from their nicotine addiction by progressively lowering their nicotine intake levels. Like I am doing at this time… successfully!    And I don’t need research to tell me that what I am doing is or is not possible, because it is FACT.

It’s important to note that even a cartridge with a “high” nicotine level still delivers considerably less nicotine per inhale than a traditional cigarette. About 10% from what I have read.  I started at 24 mil of nicotine, and now I am down to 10.  It keeps getting lower, and I am actually feeling better.  I know it is due to the reduced nicotine in my system, not to mention that my lungs have cleared up considerably. It looks like I have about 2 or 3 days left of the 10 mil, then I will be down to 8 mil. of nicotine.  And the great thing, is that I can continue to lower it, until i am completely away from nicotine all together.

So how many smokers successfully quit using the electronic cigarette? I don’t have any idea, but there have been many that I have read about in the e-cig forums on line.  It’s really too soon to say for sure, and no large organized studies have been performed to date, but they are working on it.  Several smaller studies have been done that show promising results.  However, if you were to go to the major “vaping” forums you will see many testimonials of people who have kicked the habit for good using these devices. Some of these success stories are from people who have smoked over a pack or two a day, for decades, just like me.

Until in-depth clinical studies are done, we are going to have to rely on testimonials, the smaller studies, and our own reasonable judgement. Do your research and educate yourself on the real facts. Then you will be equipped to make an intelligent adult decision, if this is something that can help you quit smoking. But remember, you have to be the one to make the choice and stick to it, or nothing, not even e-cigs, will help.

Here’s the bottom line: No device, even one as promising as the e-cigarette, is going to be a “silver bullet” that can make a smoker quit overnight. Successfully quitting forever, starts with a strong conviction to quit. If a you truly want to quit, then the electronic cigarette may be a very helpful tool in realizing that goal.

But let’s face it… many smokers DON”T want to quit!   They just enjoy smoking too much. For this group, electronic smoking can be a much healthier alternative… hopefully one that will keep them alive a lot longer.  And remember – you choose your nicotine level, so how you much choose is completely up to you. At least this way, you know you are not getting the 4000+ other things that you get with traditional tobacco cigarettes.

One thing I can say for sure, is that I now make sure any electronic cigarette liquid that I buy is made in the USA, so I know it is using USDA or FDA approved ingredients.  Heck, a lot of it is “kosher”.   It may not be 100% safe, but it makes me feel safer to know I am not using industrial chemicals, instead of food grade, or pharmaceutical grade products.   From what I have found, most of the USA e liquid companies are very concerned about their manufacturing process and supplies.  Most are regulating themselves, since there is no federal guidelines in place yet, so they can make sure their products are as safe for their customers as they can be, and have taken a stand to not sell to minors. And again, that is all without federal mandate.

Are Electronic Cigarettes Safe

February 15, 2012 by
Filed under Electronic Cigarette Help, Featured

Now days, Electronic cigarettes are being marketed as a “safer alternative” to smoking tobacco cigarettes.

But just how safe are e-cigarettes?

Are there any health risks with an e-cig?

Let’s examine electronic cigarette vaping, and compare it to smoking a real, traditional tobacco cigarette, so you can make an intelligent, and informed decision, if this might be a wise smoking alternative for you, or a loved one.

The most harmful aspect of smoking cigarettes is the 4,000+, toxic chemicals that are inhaled when you burn a traditional tobacco cigarette. It’s the actual smoke causing lung cancer and respiratory disease, not the nicotine.  With vaping electronic cigarettes,  none of these 4,000+ toxic chemicals are produced because, there is no smoke, and there is nothing actually burning at all.  With no smoke, it means no tar, no carbon monoxide, etc.  The vapors produced have only a few ingredients, not all the additives that big tobacco put into their cigarettes to ad flavor or addiction… As a person with preparatory problems, I can feel a huge difference, now that I have been vaping with e cigs, instead of cigarettes.  And I could feel this happen after about a week, and it keeps getting better.

But what about the nicotine?

E-cigarettes still deliver nicotine.  Well, most of them do, but you can also keep vaping with no nicotine if you enjoy vaping, if you can ween yourself off the nicotine over time, like am in doing.  Start at a comfortable level, and lower it every couple of times you buy more e liquid.  Over time, if you choose, and try, you can cut your addiction to nicotine, if you have the will power and desire to do so.

How dangerous is that?

More independent studies on the effects of nicotine by itself need to be done. Right now the health risks are still inconclusive. Nevertheless, it’s obvious that a method of delivering nicotine that doesn’t involve real smoke is going to be much safer than burning tobacco.  There are studies that prove that. And that is how the patch and gums are allowed.

The FDA recently reported that traces of carcinogens where found in a sample of electronic cigarette nicotine liquid.

However, these same carcinogens are also found in nicotine delivery alternatives like the patch and gum (which are both approved by the FDA). Also keep in mind that many every day foods like peanut butter contain trace levels of carcinogens.  This is not to say that we should not be concerned about it.  Just keep it in perspective.  It’s important to remember that the dose of a particular carcinogen is an important factor in how toxic it actually is.  If carcinogens are present in e-cigarette vapor, it doesn’t not appear to be in high doses. Right now there is no evidence that these carcinogens are are even translated into the actual electronic cigarette vapor that is inhaled.  Oh, and that was just one of the samples they tested.  That one was made in China, and they did not find it in any of the others tested, from China and the USA manufacturers. Just one cartridge…

Are electronic cigarettes totally safe?

Honestly,,,   breathing our air is not totally 100% safe.  More studies are needed on electronic cigarettes and vaping.  So, until more studies are done it’s probably a good idea to err on the side of caution, and assume that they are not 100% safe.  However, if  you compare it to smoking a traditional tobacco cigarette, there really is no comparison.

One thing we know for sure is that tobacco smoking is incredibly dangerous, expensive, and inconvenient now days. The e-cigarette give smokers an alternative that appears to be much safer and will probably save countless lives. Given a choice between the two? I think it’s positively, a no brainer…
